Homemade Apple Sauce

I love applesauce on pancakes but most stores only sell sugary applesauce with an excess of ingredients. So I decided to make my own. This recipe does take a little while so I recommend that you start this in the morning so you can finish it later in the day. Enjoy!

  • 8 Gala apples, cored, peeled, and diced
  • 1 Granny Smith apple, cored, peeled, and diced
  • 1/2 c water
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 tsp cornstarch for thickening
  • other spices if desired

Cut and peel the apples and place in a crockpot. Add the water and cinnamon and turn the crockpot on to Low heat. Let sit for ~7 hours, stirring occasionally.

At the 6 hour mark add the cornstarch by mixing it with a small amount of cold water and mixing it to make it so that there is no clumps, then add to the applesauce.

When the applesauce is done it may be a little runny, so if you would like you can drain the juice by placing the applesauce into a finely knit strainer to remove the excess juice, then scoop into jars to refrigerate. Enjoy!
